As a project administrator, I have add a "Files" web part to a project. Users designated as "authors" can upload files here but they cannot delete them. One has to be an "editor" to be able to delete his own file but then he can delete other files as well. Is this a feature or a bug?

Well, I wouldn't call it a feature, but maybe 'by design'. The real issue is that files exist in the file system just like any other file, so we don't usually really know who created most files or who owns them. They are just files, and you have the same permissions to all files in the directory.

We do keep track of who creates files through the LabKey server UI, but we don't use that information for security purposes.

So, I made one of the users an editor so that she can delete files from the 'Files' web part but the files she deletes still show up in the list. They cannot be accessed and they don't show up when I click 'Manage Files' but there is no way to remove them from the Files list. Also, as a project administrator, I don't have full access to this web part. I cannot see the 'Audit History' nor do I get a 'Configure Directories' button. Is there no way to remove these file names from the Files list?

Lynn, this looks to be a bug. The Files webpart should not list files that were deleted via the File Manager (ie when you click the "Manage Files" link).

I have opened an issue in our bug tracking database about this problem (see https://www.labkey.org/issues/home/Developer/issues/details.view?issueId=11396 if you would like track the progress).

The only work-around for this problem is not ideal. You can add the Files webpart to the center pane (ie the wider section of the page). This webpart will display the files using the File manager (ie what you see when you click on the "Manage Files" link.
