LabKey Biologics: Home Page

The main dashboard on the home page provides quick links into different aspects of the data.

The top header bar is available throughout the application and includes:

On the dashboard, you'll see panels displaying:

  • Dashboard Insights: A selectable set of visualizations, defaulting to the Sample Count by Status.
    • Sample Types can be selectively excluded from the graphs on this dashboard, as described here.
  • Notebooks: See task status, recent notebooks, and link to your Electronic Lab Notebooks dashboard.
  • Storage List: At a glance storage details and access to your virtual freezers.
  • Jobs List: The home for workflow jobs. If any tasks were assigned to you, they would be shown on Your Job Queue and can be filtered by priority.

Header Menus

The menus in the upper right offer these selections:

In-App Notifications for Background Imports

When assay or sample data import by file or copy/paste is large enough that it will take considerable time to complete, the import will automatically be done in the background. Files larger than 100kb (or a copy/paste of > 1000 rows) will be imported asynchronously. This allows users to continue working within the app while the import completes. To see all such imports currently underway, select Background Imports from the user/avatar menu.

In the header, the Notifications menu will report when background imports are completed. While an import is underway, the bell icon will be replaced with a spinner icon. The number superimposed on the menu indicates how many unread notifications are available.

The spinner icon will also be shown to users viewing the Sample Type or Assay currently being imported in the background making it clear that the data is in an incomplete state.

Learn more about asynchronous background imports in the companion topic for Sample Manager.

Navigation

The main Menu is available throughout the application and gives you quick access to all aspects of Biologics. It will include the name of the category you are in ("Dashboard" if not one of the specific categories).

Click the menu categories for sub-dashboards, such as for the Registry, Notebooks, or Sample Types. Click individual menu items for that specific category.

The home page for any registry type provides tabs linking to other entity home pages, here viewing "Molecules". Click a different entity type to switch your view. Use the and icons to scroll if needed.

Bioregistry

The Registry dashboard shows all of the unique Registry Source Types available, such as Molecules, Expression Systems, Cell Lines, etc. Click a name or directly select one from the main menu to learn more or register new entities:

Click See Entity Relationships to see the various source types and relationships recognized by the registry. Learn more in this topic: Biologics: Terminology.

Registry Source Details

Each source in the registry has an Overview page which includes basic properties, a grid about any samples created from it, links to any notebooks which reference it, and a list of related registry source entities. The Manage menu lets you create new sources or samples with the selected registry source as a parent.

Detail pages include multiple tabs for details including Lineage. Some Registry Source Types, including Protein and Nucleotide Sequences, also include a tab for Sequence, shown here.

Sample Types

The Sample Types dashboard shows a grid of sample types defined in the system.

Assays

The Assays dashboard shows the assays defined in your system.

Storage

Managing contents of your physical storage systems, such as freezers, is made easier by creating an exact virtual match, giving you an integrated way track where each sample can be found.

Learn more about creating, customizing, and using storage in the Sample Manager documentation here:

Workflow

The Workflow dashboard shows a Job List of active workflow jobs and tasks in the system.

The tabs each show the count of jobs in the different categories:

  • Your Job Queue: Jobs and tasks assigned to you.
  • Your Tracked Jobs: Jobs you are on the Notify List for.
  • All Active Jobs: Jobs that have not been completed, including but not limited to the ones in your own queue.
  • Completed Jobs: Jobs that have been completed.
  • All Jobs: All of the above.

Media (Enterprise Edition Feature)

From the Media dashboard, you add and manage ingredients, raw materials, mixtures, and batches.

Learn more in the topic: Managing Ingredients and Raw Materials

Picklists

Create and access user-defined picklists, which gather a set together for some operation like adding to a workflow job, adding to storage, performing bulk operations, etc. Editors (and above) can create their own picklists. Access either Your Picklists or Shared Picklists from the main menu.

Notebooks

Collaborate and record your work in data-connected Electronic Lab Notebooks. Use templates to create many similar notebooks, and manage individual notebooks through a review and signing process.
